Naomi Gerbrandt Recovery Fund

Hello;

We are the Gerbrandt kids - Jennifer, Adam, and Jessica and families,

We come to you in an hour of need, asking that you keep our parents in your prayers and ask for financial support. This past weekend our mom, Naomi Gerbrandt, went to BC for a ‘fun sister retreat’. The plane ride there was rough; closing up her ears and not improving, making her dizzy. The morning of Oct. 29th, we received a call saying that she had started throwing up and then had a seizure, resulting in an ambulance taking her to the hospital; unconscious and having trouble breathing. Our Dad planned to take the next flight to BC Oct 29th in the afternoon.

Since then, they have done a spinal tap, the fluid was discolored. Although this is an indication of meningitis the doctors were unsure. She was sedated and still unresponsive. After a while, the CT Scan was clear, the doctor was 100% sure it was Meningitis. Though unsure which type, they were saying it is likely bacterial. More tests were still needing to happen. They have put her on anti seizure meds. Our mom was in a coma. For now, she will be in BC until further notice.

The doctors could not rule out brain damage until Mom was up and more responsive. But they have ruled out the ability for Mom to fly for a minimum of two weeks. Still fighting the meningitis infection, still some brain swelling. Mom has two blood clots on the back of her brain they are treating as well as one possibly in her spleen, hoping to dissolve. They are in the veins draining from the brain not going to the brain so it is in a good spot as far as clots go. Once the swelling and infection are gone the doctors are hopeful for a full recovery. Doctors have told my Dad that Mom is not out of the woods yet and that she has a very serious life threatening infection. Doctors say if she stops responding to the medications and takes a turn for the worse they have prepared to take her back to ICU.

The hearing specialist says it looks like she has permanent damage in both ears (very common with meningitis).

Mom has improved everyday this past week and we are greatly encouraged by this. We know that her road to recovery is going to be quite a process with therapy as well as continued antibiotics and anti-seizure medication.

Money raised will go towards:

- Food and lodging

- Transportation: to and from the hospital daily

- Possible flights back for both our Mom and Dad

We would like to receive this money as soon as possible as our Dad is in Vancouver now and we want to be our best to help offset these unexpected costs. Our Mom means so much to us and it is extremely difficult that we cannot be there for her as we have families of our own and little means of finance to get us there to her.

We are forever grateful to you for your support in this time of need.
