Myleigh has significant crowding in both her maxillary(upper) and manibular(lower) arches. The recommendation for her would be to fabricate an upper and lower expander to prepare for the eruption of her permanent teeth. If expansion is not done prior her permanent teeth erupting she most likely will have to be treated with extractions of permanent teeth.
The benefits of expansion is not limited to just dental benefits it also can improve the nasal airway to decrease the chances of myleigh being a mouth breather. Mouthbreathing can contribute to dental malocclusion as well as sleep apnea.
Myleigh has had sleep apnea for a few years, her oxygen levels dropped 6 times in a deep sleep.
When she was born she had to have a feeding tube for a few weeks which made her learn how to breath with her tongue at the bottom of her mouth while she sleeps when she should have it resting at the top of her mouth. Because she has her tongue resting at the bottom she pushes her teeth forward.
The cost of this is over $2000 and the orthodontist says she needs this done as soon as possible.
