My Engineering Project
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Elle Smyth and I am a freshmen at Duke University studying Mechanical Engineering. This summer, I will be traveling to Uganda with the organization Duke Engineers for International Development (DEID). DEID is a student-run organization that is dedicated to completing high impact, sustainable engineering projects that are desperately needed in developing communities. The village of Kanyegaramire in Western Uganda has reached out to DEID expressing their need for electricity and concrete structures. Thus, this summer, I will be traveling to Uganda with other DEID members to construct a solar powered building that can function as a clinic, community center, and volunteer guesthouse. This project has the potential to greatly increase the standard of living of community members and I am extremely excited to help the communtiy in such a powerful way.
This DEID project is extremely important to me to not only gain valubalbe engineering experience, but to fully immerse myself in a brand new culture and gain a new perspective on the world. I am looking to my friends and family to help me make this trip a reality. I would be so grateful to receive any help in fundraising my travel expenses so that I can turn see this project come to life.
