I'm starting a gofundme account to help save my mom, Bette Smith's home. This is our last resort. If my mom knew I was starting it, she would be upset with me. But honestly, she needs help and we have exhausted all of our other options. I can't imagine my mom not having a home after all she's been through.
My parents have owned this house for over 20 years. They raised 5 children in it and my mom now raises my niece and nephew in the same rooms I grew up in. Every memory of mine and my siblings childhood takes place in this home.
In February of 2015, My dad passed away in a tragic car accident. My dad was the bread winner, the main source of income for our family. He had no life insurance, so any money we had, went quickly between paying debts and funeral costs. This has left my mom to take charge of all the finances with no savings and only a part time job.
In 2016 my nieces mom passed away. Social Security is unable to help my mom because my nieces mother did not pay in enough money for my niece to receive assistance.
My mom is working, but raising two toddlers alone makes it hard because of childcare and childcare expenses. For the most part she tries to schedule her work around mine so that I can watch them for her.
We received a letter notifying us that on June 6th, my moms home will be going up for auction. My mom has tried so hard to pay every bill she has but her money is extremely limited.
There are over 20 years of memories in moms house. Her last memories of dad took place there. It breaks our hearts that we may lose the place we have called "home" for so long, the place where we remember my dad. After losing my dad, we felt like we lost everything, and now we are about to lose the place we cherish all of our memories with him. The place we all join to be together, the place we all feel the most comfortable and safe, and the place we have always called home.
My mom is a good person, she has one of the biggest hearts I know, she's always there to help others. But now my mom is the one needing the help. I understand times are tight, and people may not be able to help. But my mom needs any help she can get.
