Mountain Heritage Book Club

When it comes to high school students, they just don't read enough.  It isn't pleasurable to them - we are going to change that! And there are SO many great young adult books being written that students are missing out on!  Our goal is to turn reading from a chore to total fun and hope that our students will graduate and start adult book clubs (or join one) of their own!

We are Alexandra Meyer and Jenny Tipton, teachers at Mountain Heritage High School in Burnsville, NC.  We just started the first MHHS book club (The for our students and we have a really GREAT number of interested students and teachers!  The club is focusing on books at the young adult level that are voted on by the club.  We plan to read a total of 5 books this year!

We are looking for the money to buy books to download to our kindles, previously provided by The Golden Leaf Foundation.  As a club, we are also hoping to do some fun activities such as have a book movie night at school with snacks, and/or go to literary events or book signings as a club.  To do these things, we need a little more funding to pay a bus driver and the fees to take a field trip!

We need these funds by Thanksgiving in order to at least buy our next book.  The teachers, but more importantly the students would be eternally gratefull to have these books to start something kids can do for the rest of their lives!
