A Day Without Women: Show Your Support for Monmouth County Women
Join us in recognizing and supporting women in Monmouth County whose daily work serves the needs of other women within our community.
On March 8th, women around the world will take part in A Day Without Women by pausing contributions to their homes and workplaces in order to shed light on the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system, while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity.
The Women’s March recognizes that some women are not able to step away for a day, such as those who are single mothers, those facing economic insecurity and those whose provide essential community services. We strike for them.
In the spirit of supporting women, particularly those whose daily jobs help support women within our community, Huddle groups in the shore area of Monmouth County are organizing lunch on March 8th for women at local organizations that serve women including area shelters and Planned Parenthood in Shrewsbury.
Although purchases during A Day Without Women are discouraged, exceptions include local, women-owned small businesses. In accordance with these guidelines, lunch will be catered by et al Fine Foods, a small business run by Kim Ramin in Highlands, NJ.
We ask that you join us in recognizing and supporting these women. Your donation will help us provide a meal for women at local community organizations, and all additional contributions will go directly to these organizations.
What is a Huddle?
Following their international march on January 21st, organizers of the Women’s March have continued the movement with their 10 Actions in 100 Days plan. Action 2 encourages women to form “Huddles” in their neighborhoods and communities. Several have formed throughout Monmouth county to help sustain action toward a healthier, more inclusive and more equitable community.
