Hello. My name is Monica Johnson. I went blind from diabeties at the age of 29. I didn't think I could do anything anymore and I lost my independence completely. During this time, lots of caring people, friends and organizations all stepped in to help. Today, I am back on my feet and better than ever. I live independently and am now a motivational speaker. Now it's time to pay it forward.
I live in a low income housing complex in Syracuse, NY. In this complex air conditioners are not provided for us. This complex is for mobility impaired people only.
A lot of the residents have more than just mobility issues. I just moved here recently and found out that five people do not have air conditioners. God says in the Bible that He will not see his people suffer, and if we see a need we are to help. He laid it on my heart to get air conditioners for these people. I have already received funds for two but I need the donations for three more. We gave away two air conditioners last week. The first was given to a resident who has never had air conditioning before. The other resident has around the clock care. It is difficult for the home health aids to care for residents in such hot, humid conditions up to 100 degrees +. These two people were extremely grateful and excited that this will help to better their health during the summer heat.
This complex is set up for "through the wall" air conditioners only. Window units will not work here. They are about $500 each and the people in my building just can't afford them.
It breaks my heart to see them suffer. Please help donate to this cool air fund so these people can live more comfortably, breathe easier, and improve their overall health. These air conditioners will be donated to the building where we live and will stay here for any future residents.
In our communities, every person is valuable and deserves help from people who care.
