Dear Friends,
As the population of supporters grows at the Sacred Stone camps in North Dakota, the medical needs of the community become more apparent. Native American's from across the country have come to stay and despite weather changes, will likely stay through the winter to protect our most sacred resource, water. Changing Woman Initiative, a Native American Women's health Collective based in New Mexico and allied community health teams across the United States, are organzing and have created a field clinic easy access clinic in Oceti Sakowin (Main camp) and Sacred Stone Camp in North Dakota.

These two sites have medics, nurses, herbalists and we are adding women's health to their collective care. At this time these health teams are working 24 hrs a day providing FREE health care to the communities.
Water protectors are men, women, and children. All of which need medical care while they are there.
We spent 3 days in camp assessing the healthcare needs and there are 2 Medic Tent areas, which are able to provide first aid. One medic area has ambulance transport from 8am to 8pm-to Bismark, ND which is 50 miles north. Bismark has 2 hospitals. The Indian Health Service is 20 miles south of the camp-and has limited services/supplies/staff to handle major emergencies.
The camp is actually in 3 locations
1) Main camp (Oceti Sakokwin)
2) Rosebud camp (across the river)
3) Sacred stone camp ( closer to cannonball and on reservation land)
Sacred Stone Camp- Midwifery Team
We are colloborating with tribal matriarchs to develop 2 spaces.
1) Mni Wiconi Health and Wellness Center
(Sacred Stone camp)- we are working on with Do No Harm with UCSF, Herbal Medics, National Nurses United, and medics.-This is a perminant location
2) Mni Wiconi Womens Health Field Clinic
(Oceti Sakokwin-main camp)
We are colloborating with Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council

Midwifery Field Clinic
In the past 2 days, we have already confirmed pregnancies, treated women's health issues, and provided prenatal care and education. Women and people from Standing Rock tribal community are also coming to camp for care, due to issues of access in the larger community of Standing Rock.
Fundraising:
Our goals to establish care in these two sites include these needs.
**1) Yurt $6,000.00 (comes with wood stove)
With winter fast approaching the tipi will not be sustainable space to provide care and to house volunteer midwives through the winter.
2) Travel costs for volunteer midwives
People with skills ARE a resource. We would like to offer travel costs for those coming to provide care, who could not pay for their own costs. Volunteers will be in camp for 1-2 week long rotations, teams of 3 would be ideal.
3) Labs:
We all know the cost of healthcare, with confirming pregnancies women need prenatal labs to be drawn, as well as testing for STI's, which we can not provide immediatly in the camp-but would send out to get this done.
4) Transportation:
This is always an issue in Indian country, but also necessity for those in camp.

We are also creating relationships with the local IHS, medic tents, surrounding hospitals, National Nurses United to coordinate our efforts and to make sure that they will have continued care through the winter.
