Milton Keynes Scouts: Dawson Road Project

Tax deductible

Milton Keynes Scouts has a waiting list of over 1300 young people, an annual waiting list growth of from 2018-2019 of 71%.

So we're raising money to convert this, or similar, warehouse into a Scouting Facility for 500-600 young people to join and benefit from being Scouts.

This project started as a fundraiser for a specific warehouse, 11 Dawson Road, and that is still the current goal, but if we are unsuccessful in obtaining 11 Dawson Road, we will be looking for similar alternatives in Milton Keynes that meet the following criteria:

Required:

1/ Has the capability of supporting 2 or more sections simultaneously, 4 an evening.
2/ Has sufficient storage for 20+ sections
3/ Access to sufficient parking

Desirables:

Space for meeting rooms for Young Leaders, Section Leaders and training
Space for a branch to the District Scout Shop
Space for an indoor range, for archery and other indoor target sports
Tea Room for parents who don't want to drive home and come back 20 minutes later
Height clearance for an indoor climbing wall for use by young people, and to train instructors over winter, when The Quarries climbing wall is closed.

---------------------------

The warehouse facility will be a resource that can be used by the Colonies, Packs, Troops and Units based there, and also the other 23 Groups & 7 units based across Milton Keynes, for:
-- Weekend sleepovers
-- The indoor range
-- The climbing wall
-- Possibly Gang Show rehearsals, or
-- Fundraising events like Dinner/Dances, Bingo, Race Nights.

A venue for all the current 1500 youth members, and the growth that such a venue would bring, so a total of ~2100 members that would make up Milton Keynes District

---------------------------
Dawson Road is a 7500 sq ft warehouse will become home to 24 sections of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, over 5 nights and Saturdays. Providing scouting to ~550-600 young people from across Milton Keynes.

This outrageously ambitious project will provide Milton Keynes District with a hub for it's activities, training facilities and the equivalent of 3 Scout halls of capacity, in one footprint.
