Capital Campaign for Mill Hill Makers
When given a choice, we all desire to live in a strong, safe, life-giving community. Sadly, this isn’t the reality for some of our neighbors, in Anderson’s low-income neighborhoods, who are plagued with challenges like adequate affordable housing, transportation, access to healthy whole foods, quality health care, and marketable skills.
Many of us recognize the plight of the poor and sincerely desire to do something, but quickly become overwhelmed with the questions of what and how. It is easy to become frustrated with feelings of inadequacy and reluctantly accept defeat concerning our ability to help.
This does not have to be the case. The LOT Project is currently establishing the Mill Hill Makers on the corner of Market and Towers Streets. Mill Hill Makers is a makerspace designed to house the equipment needed to create. It works similarly to a gym membership however, instead of offering access to exercise equipment, personal trainers, and fitness classes, it offers tools, expert craftsmen, and classes in artisan trade. Mill Hill Makers will be open to the public through one of three membership options. Depending on your membership selection, you will have access to tools, discounted rates on classes, and/or a community space. There will be personal locker, shelf, and cubicle space available for an additional charge.
The purpose of Mill Hill Makers is twofold. It is an exciting, new concept for the Anderson area that will give all people access to tools and equipment, making trying your hand at a new skill a possibility. Having the opportunity to learn a new skill or enjoy something you “used to do” alongside experts at an affordable cost is a plus for any Andersonian! The developers of Mill Hill Makers also have another goal in mind and this is why it is so important for you to help. A portion of the membership fees will be used to offer scholarships to our neighbors who may not be financially able to join, giving them the opportunity to learn a skill that could change their lives. In this setting of hands on learning, many life skills can be learned that make it possible for a person to become self-sufficient. The confidence and value that comes through learning to create can be the catalyst needed to birth a strong, safe, life-giving community.
This is the answer to “what” and “how.” This is the time. This is your opportunity to become a part of The Lot Project team. You can invest your time by volunteering and/or your money toward the completion of this facility. We guarantee you’ll see the transformation in your city and yourself.
We have raised over $200,000 towards our $500,000 capital campaign to open Mill Hill Makers. We need another $171,000 to get our building up to code, and $38,000 for operational support in 2019. We need your help. If you have any questions about Mill Hill Makers specifics, or you are interested in making a large donation fill out the contact form below, or call 864-642-1085.
