Mikala's Medical Mission Trip 2019

As my undergraduate career at the University of Maine comes to a close and with graduation fast approaching, I think about my experiences and my passions as I venture out into the "adult world." Throughout most of my life, I have had an undeniable passion for the field of medicine and the idea of helping others. My life goal is to eventually become a doctor in the pediatric age group. In getting there, I want to experience as much as I can and make the biggest impact along the way. I have always been interested in the idea of a mission trip and recently, I was given the opportunity to experience one. I have been accepted to a medical missions organization called International Volunteer HQ. This organization is one of the best volunteer abroad programs worldwide. I will be traveling to Costa Rica to help those in need and while this is volunteer work, it does come at a cost. I will be spending two weeks in Costa Rica experiencing medicine within the field and onsite clinics helping those that otherwise would not have access to healthcare. I am asking you to assist me in making this journey a possibility. My total trip will cost about $1500. The program fees going towards housing, meal plans, supervision, materials, and supplies will total to around $1,000 and then the plane ticket will be an additional fee of about $500. All of these fees are due by May 3rd in order for me to go. Any amount you can give that would assist me in making this unforgettable experience a reality would be appreciated more than you know.
