Mia & Mason

In February 2009, I became sole caretaker of my grandchildren, Mia and Mason. They were 1 and 2 years old. My daughter moved home later that year and between the two of us we provided all financial, physical, and emotional support. It’s been a constant fight at all turns, and we’ve sought legal advice many times over the years only to be told unless the parents (who were both absent) signed over their rights, we could never have any legal guardianship.  Fast forward to the present, both the mother and father have found themselves in legal situations.  I was told by the public defender representing the children that I had to get a legal representation within 10 days or the children would be taken from the only home they’ve ever known and placed into foster care. I’ve spoken to a lawyer and it will require a $5000 retainer to obtain his services. That’s why I’ve come to my friends and family. We do not have $5000 at our disposal at the moment, and my heart is breaking at the thought my babies will be pulled out of the only home they’ve ever known and placed into a stranger’s care.
