Refugee mothers are survivors who refuse to silently be abused by domestic violence, gangs, borders, ICE, or for-profit prison companies. Please support two brave mothers who have faced retaliation by ICE for their participation in the #Hutto27 hunger strikes!
Francisca and Maribel both fled extremely violent ex-husbands with gang ties and asked for asylum, only to be caged by ICE at the infamous for-profit Hutto immigration prison for women in Texas. Francisca and Maribel were part of the #Hutto27 who launched a hunger strike for their freedom at the end of last year. CCA retaliated swiftly against both women by sending them to immigration prisons in Pearsall and Laredo far from their social and legal support.
Maribel was just granted an $8500 bond at her hearing on Friday Feb. 12 and, thanks to RAICES, was able to get out the same day and is now getting the medical care she desperately needs, and staying at a shelter in Austin! This was a tremendous victory for those of us who have been supporting Maribel and for the women who went on hunger strike at Hutto. We are immensely grateful that she was able to walk free so quickly after receiving a bond!
Funds raised from this page will go towards the RAICES bond fund to ensure that it remains a resource for other women who will also need this help in the future. Thank you for supporting these brave women!
