Pingu is Homeward Bound

Hello, my name is Lauren and I'm a Contaminated Sites Environmental Consultant that has been lucky enough to have been selected to take part in the Homeward Bound Project - an inspiring leadership and strategic initiative teamed with a science education program on climate, biological and earth system research, set against the back drop of Antarctica, for 78 women scientists from around the globe. This is the start of a ten year outreach initiative to build a 1,000 strong global collaboration of women in science, who have had the same experience at sea together, focussing on the leadership and planning required to contribute to a planet our future generations can be proud of.

"Do not follow where the path may lead.
Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
Harold R. McAlindon

The HB Team believe that supporting women in science to significantly improve their clarity, confidence, shared vision and strategic capability, will enhance their opportunity to take up leadership roles globally and proactively contribute to a sustainable world.

The journey:
- at sea for twenty days, led by Greg Mortimer OAM, setting sail from Ushuaia in Argentina on December 2nd 2016. (Homeward Bound 2016 Draft Itinerary  )
- twelve days of state of the art leadership and strategic planning training delivered by Dr Susan David, Kit Jackson and Fabian Dattner, all experts in their fields
- six days of a cutting edge science education program incorporating the most up to date and relevant research about the state and functioning of our planet delivered by leading Australian academics
- a documentary (60 minute multi media release) is being made, following the journey and exploring the role of women in our world

Each participant needs to raise USD$15,000 by July 2016 to cover their board on the boat with a small portion going to the magnificent efforts and hard work required to pull all of this together. We then also need to buy the required clothing, gear and airfares to get to the very southern tip of  South America for departure on 2 December 2016.

Besides the amazing opportunity to be part of the team, meeting a group of ridiculously inspiring, passionate and educated women and gaining training in how to make a  valuable difference to others and the planet - I can't put into words the level of excitement and awe I have knowing I will get to set foot on the continent and see whales, orca, seals, penguins, birds, icebergs and so much more! A night spent camping on the ice may kill me but what a way to go!

Come with me on the journey by sparing a few dollars and know that each day I'm thinking of your contribution and being honoured to have been chosen for what will change not only my life but hopefully your's too. No amount is too small... or too big!
