The Mendonca Family Needs Your Help

On September 5, 2015, a good friend of mine unexpectedly suffered a heart attack. He underwent surgery for implantation of a stent and survived by the grace of God. He is now awaiting whether non-surgical treatments are an option or if he will need a heart transplant. He has been hospitalized 6 times after the occurence due to pulmonary edema, or excess fluid in the lungs. It's difficult for him even to walk and talk without experiencing shortness of breath.

Marcony Muniz Mendonca moved with his family to the United States from Brazil 15 years ago to provide a better life for them. He and his wife Maria de Magdala have worked very hard to provide for their daughter so that she can receive a quality education. Marcony is a painter and Maria de Magdala cleans houses while their daughter Carolina goes to college full time studying psychology. Unfortunately, recently life took an unexpected turn, and everyone now is trying to adapt to the best of their ability.

From the time the heart attack occured, the family income has been cut by 70% due to Marcony not being able to work. They are struggling to pay for living expenses, medical expenses, and school expenses (the family pays Carolina's college tuition that is not covered by financial aid). With the significant reduction in income, they will no longer be able to afford school tuition and Carolina will need to stop attending college. With all the difficulties they're facing right now, that's one thing they do not want to happen.
