On July 13, 2018 Melis (19) was diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin Lymphoma. What started out as just a bug bite turned out to be more than what she bargained for. As days went by the size of her “bug bite” started growing at a concerning rate, causing breathing and mobility issues. After visiting multiple doctors that could not diagnose the cause of the bug bites rapid growth, a biopsy was taken and it was determined that she did not have a bug bite but rather something much worse. It was then recommended that Melis see an oncologist and start treatment immediately. As many may know any type of medical treatment can cost a pretty penny. Due to her young age, her oncologist recommended starting IVF treatment to harvest her eggs as chemotherapy tends to affect the uterine lining making it hard to conceive after treatment. This procedure is not usually covered by any insurance company and is usually very costly. While her parents will do anything for the health of their daughter, they simply cannot keep up with the medical and living expenses that are following this battle.
