Medical Service Trip in Zambia, Africa!!

Donation protected
I am currently raising money to go on a service trip to Zambia, Africa for three weeks this summer with a medical and community development focus! I will be helping out in local clinics and in rural homes, participating in health talks at schools and training centers, and providing HIV education initiatives.

As a precursor to why I want to do this: I am currently a sophomore at The University of Washington intending to major in either Molecular Biology or Biochemistry (or Neurobiology? Or Environmental Health? Who knows! Decisions are scary.) But regardless of what major I end up sticking to, I am on the pre-med path. I hope to one day be able to work in developing countries and work for organizations, such as this one, to help improve the healthcare system and to create sustainable programs and critical education measures. I’ve been wanting to participate in a program like this for a (very) long time now so that I can start actually making an impact on people’s lives across the world.

Unfortunately, the barrier I always face is a financial one, so here we are! I am hoping to raise enough money so that I can participate in this program and make the impact that I know I can.

A little more about me:
- I currently work at the UW Medical Center as a research assistant in the immunology department. I am also starting to work as an undergraduate researcher at the Behzad Lab where I will be working on developing a deeper scientific understanding of certain Kidney diseases through serial block face scanning electron microscopy.

- I am the Vice-President of Community Service at my sorority, Kappa Delta, where I plan events like our annual Reach for the Sky Auction which raised upwards of $80,000 to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital and Prevent Child Abuse America.

- I am the campus ambassador for Gift of Life at my school which is an organization which aims to build up the national bone marrow registry. I hold drives to add people to the registry as well as educating the community about blood cancers and the process of donating!
