For any of you who do not know what is going on in Hawaii. The Governor of Hawaii has made it his duty to protect private corporations over his constituents. The Gov along with private aid wants to build a 30 meter telescope on one of the most sacred places to Hawaiians, Mauna Kea. This telescope will not only be obsolete by its completion date but it'll damage an entire ecosystem. The Governor has refuted the petition of over 200,000 people against the project. Currently the Governor is abusing his power by waging an all out war on Hawaiians by militarizing police agencies and wasting millions of dollars in tax funds to protect his financial interest.
On the morning of July 17th, 33 elders were arrest as they were not only protecting their sacred land they were exercising their rights under the Hawaii State constitution. The Gov has continued to flex as the communities show no weakness.
The evening of July 17th the Governor declared a state of emergency against non-violent protectors of the land. A reason for this emergency is to bypass laws without punity. What you will not see is the police officers who are there do not want to aid in the arrest and desecration as their jobs are on the line. All week police officers standing against their own have been crying, singing with their families, as well as chanting asking for this madness to stop. As for the Gov he shows no mercy to his efforts to ensure the protection of his pockets.
Why your help is needed. Currently hundreds and close to thousands have gathered in opposition. Provisions are needed up on the Mauna to help with their health, safety, and well-being. These brave protectors also face arrest with cost ranging from $500-$800. It is our responsibility to help those in need. I appreciate your time and consideration.
