I am organising this Go Fund Me campaign because Mark Goldsmith really needs some help.
This is going to be a surprise for him when this goes live as he will see this at the same time everyone else will on his facebook page. But I cannot think of anyone I know who is more deserving.
Mark is the kind of person that will do anything to help someone else if it is at all within his power. And despite being quite ill at times, he always manages to stay cheerful.
You may or may not know he worked tirelessly in aid of those struck by the massive earthquake and then the Super Typhoon in the Philippines a couple of years ago at great expense to himself financially and emotionally. Ironic now in a way that it is him that needs help.
I've known Mark for more years than I can mention so I guess I know him better than most people. I'll get straight to the point, Mark is in the process of bringing his wife and baby boy Charlie home to the UK from the Philippines and needs some financial help.
Some of you may know that it is an incredibly long, uphill struggle to marry a foreigner, organise all paperwork and deal with the bureaucracy not just of the British Home Office but especially of the slow moving government in the Philippines.
As a family they have been separated for over 3 months and it could stretch to over a year at this rate. Mark has needed to be in the UK to do the paperwork and on the last leg of what has been an incredibly long journey already, Mark is starting to struggle both emotionally and financially.
He has applied for a British Passport for Charlie his Son and that is in on its way now. After this arrives Mark will apply for a Visa for his wife and they will come and join him in the UK.
Financially Mark is very stretched. He is paying for his wife and baby to live in the Philippines and paying for himself to live in the UK until everything is organised with the Visa. I know his wife Cristine earns what she can but I think the pay over there is very low.
Many of you will know that Mark has MS (Multiple Sclerosis) so doesn't have a great deal of money and the increasing pressure and stress of the situation is causing him to become quite ill.
So here's the thing....
If you are in a position to help Mark financially so that he can get his family to the UK quicker please would you consider doing so. I would be most grateful. I know that Mark would be too.
I am lending Mark (he doesn't know it. Yet) £500 but my funds are limited. I am not in a position to help further and if I were I wouldn't be making this campaign.
If you do donate I know Mark will pay you back at some time in the future when they are all together.
I am trying to raise £3000. I am lending him £500 and I need help with the other £2500. £1500 is needed for the Visa which includes the NHS Component and £700 for the flights. The rest is for incidentals like medical testing and interviews etc.
I think most of us these days are quite stretched financially but if you can manage to help at all I would be so grateful and I know Mark would be eternally grateful too. If not a little embarrassed.
I have set this up completely in his name and will post it on his Facebook page when he is not looking (he never signs out). So all funds will go to him if any. I know that once Cristine and Charlie are in the UK his financial situation will improve drastically.
