Marie's Campaign for Epilepsy

Donation protected

Hello World,

My Name is Marie A. Abanga and I am for this purpose, the Country Director of the Gbm Foundation for Epilepsy and Mental Wellbeing .

Ok, before I proceed, let me say that this Foundation is two years old, and it was created in memory of the only brother I had called Gabriel Bebonbechem . Had, because he died at the Prime of 33, after living and suffering with Epilepsy and eventually mental illness for 18 years. In the memoir I wrote on his demise, I qualified my brother as a Genius who ended up a Simpleton .

I am thus seeking to raise funds for the various campaigns against epilepsy which you could follow http://www.gbm-em.org/" target="_blank">on our website . My native country Cameroon is according to a recent article published by the Lancet Neurology , the country with the highest prevalence of epilepsy in the world.

The theme of the 2nd World Brain Day recently celebrated, was Epilepsy . Yet, it was only in 2006 that epilepsy was considered as a national health concerned by the health authorities.

Following a baseline study in our pilot area, the stigma and rejection suffered by persons living with epilepsy is actually in par with those having a mental illness. No doubt the two conditions have so much in common.

I know and have witnessed these first hand, especially as a caregiver to the brother I loved so much. We at Gbm-em, have identified several projects for execution, implementation and monitoring, but we are yet to receive any grants or submit project proposals.

I am therefore seeking for crowd funding to keep doing the little and best I can. I wish to contribute to the Gbm Access to Treatment Fund, I wish to make campaign materials both for the solidarity walk and henceforth, above all, I wish to engage intense advocacy and sensitization of both Policy Makers and the Grassroot population so that together we can dare to talk about these hidden illness, and get to do much more about them than what currently prevails.

The 1st Epilepsy Solidarity Walk  we are organizing is scheduled for the 31st of October in Douala, Cameroon. Thereafter, a medical mission is planned in Fontem Cameroon for 3 - 5th of December for stage two of the Inclusive education for young epileptics in the Lebialem Division . A third medical mission is now being planned from the 23 -25 of April 2017.

The needs of my people especially those living with or affected  by epilepsy is almost insurmountable especially for lack of information and resources. The statistics are alarming and there is real urgent need for more concrete actions now.

Were I able to contribute this personally and collectivelly via the Gbm-em Foundation, I will be ever so grateful and glad for this sour and yet noble opportunity to keep my brother's legacy alive.

Thanks therefore in anticipation to all who will contribute any mite as their heart will move them too.
