A good man and his family need your help.
On April, 4th 2016 a self-defense shooting occurred in Mandeville Louisiana. A man I have known for several years had to defend himself from a violent aggressor.

His name is being withheld from the report by the police for fear of retaliation by other parties but I can attest that this persons character and honor are beyond question. He is a loving husband and has four school age children still at home. Two of which, his seven and three year old little girls, have autism. his wife is a stay at home mom in order to care for his special needs little ones so in order to make ends meet he works seven days a week. He runs his small business Monday through Saturday with only himself and occasional volunteer's help, then teaches on Saturday evening and all day Sunday.
He shares the knowledge he gained while in the military with others to prevent them from becoming victims of violence. Having been one of his students I can tell you that this man's focus is teaching others the responsible and ethical course of action in critical situations just like this. He taught us that every time we make a choice like the one he made, we are risking everything we have, and there will be a price to pay, whether that price be emotional, financial or physical for our decision.
Today he is paying the price for choosing to continue being there for his family. Under advisement he has had to retain a criminal defense lawyer for over $5000 just for the retainer. I know him well enough to say with assurity that he cannot afford that. His class attendance has declined and whole classes have canceled following the press exposure of his photo and location. He has been informed that criminal defense cases, should it go to that, are very expensive. And even if that is not the case there is still the civil case that will also cost him more legal fees should that arise.
He is trying to raise more money himself by strongly discounting his products and doing other projects but I don’t know how far that will get him so I set up this page to try to help him and his family with the legal costs and to cover his loss of income.
I could only hope that if I were faced with the same choices he was, that I could do the right thing, to say no to seeing that kind of hate and aggression happening and stand my ground even though it put me at personal risk. We need more people like that.
