My name is Shawn Rundblade, and I am running for Representative in the 5th Congressional District of Wisconsin.

I’m not rich, nor do I have a long history in politics. I’m an average, everyday American citizen that thinks that it is time for the majority to take back our country. Our government should be by the people and for the people as it was laid out in the constitution. I no longer feel that is the case, so I am running for Congress to change that. I truly believe that a person that understands what is is to be an average citizen knows what we need to do to move forward for the betterment of the country.

I don’t have a political agenda other than doing the best for the people in Wisconsin and our country. I am not motivated by special interests, or big money. I am simply an American citizen that wants our country to focus on all the greatness it has within it.

Until we get the details of our plan together, here is the preview:

Social Equality
I understand that we all have different values and that we cherish them deeply. In order to protect those individua values we need to ensure that we are all considered equal. I support the LGBT community as well as all minorities. Our country was founded on the idea that we all come from different places, and that is what makes us strong. We need to ensure that everyone has the right to marry who they wish. We need to ensuer that we are protecting the rights of every person no matter the color of their skin or the religion they practice.

Healthcare
Our healthcare system in America is broken. It’s run by insurance companies and investors not doctors. The Affordable Care Act was a step in the right direction, though it too is not without its flaws. We need to fight to provide healthcare to everyone that needs it. Drug companies need to be held accountable for the enormous discrepancy of drug costs in the USA vs. abroad. I understand that the drug companies in the United States spend millions on research to create new drugs, but many drug companies spend more per year on marketing drugs than they do creating them. This needs to stop! Drug companies should not be telling the people what drugs they need, that is their doctors job.

Taxes
The middle class and low income families are being taxed to the brink of starvation. We need tax reform that is both realistic and simple. Tax loopholes for the wealthy should be closed, and taxes need to be lowered for the people who are being hurt the most by our tax code. Trickle down economics again and again has failed. When we give the wealthy tax breaks, the only people who make more money are the wealthy. This goes for corprorate and small businesses as well. Corporations like GE have gotten away in past years without paying taxes. We need to get rid of tax breaks for companies who send jobs overseas and reward those who keep them here. Small businesses need to get a break so they can grow and continue to contribute to our society.

Environment
Climat change is real and we are causing it. The temperature of the earth is rising and weather patterns are changing and the pace of that change is increasing. We need to secure our energy independence by moving to renewable energies that are safe for our world. 97% of scientists agree on what is happening in our world. We need to do something today. Our time to act is quickly running out.

Wall Street
Wall Street, and the policies set forth by a previous administration caused the financial crisis. Deregulating the banking industry makes the American people a commodity to be traded. We need to end predatory lending. We need real financial reform, and we need to get money out of politics.

Immigration
Immigration in this country is a problem, and I cannot argue that we do not need to address it. But deporting 11 million people will not help our country it will create disaster. Many of those illegal immigrants are doing the hard, dirty jobs that most people refuse to do. We cannot summarily group all illegal immigrants as criminals because of the actions of a few. Instead, I propose making the path to immigration more streamlined so those who want to come to this country legally can do so with ease. Throwing out 11 million people will cost us millions in sales tax revenue and income for many businesses. Our fear of a few cannot trump taking care of another human looking for the American Dream. It’s what our country was founded on.

Foreign Policy
Our military is the strongest in the world, and we need to be careful and sparing with a force like that. I feel that we need to focus more on defense than offense. For far too long, America has imposed it’s will on others based on the idea of protecting our freedom. While I want out military to continue to stay strong and protect us, we need to get out of countries who no longer welcome us as long as it does not threaten our security. Instead, we need to work on peaceful relations where we can, and start building trust in America once again. We should be working with NATO and the UN to provide our services when needed. After 9/11 NATO came to our defense, and we need to do the same. We are not the world police, and we need to take care of our own first.

This is just a basic outline of where I stand on many issues. There are obviously many more nuances and details that I will be sharing in the future as this campaign starts ramping up. I believe that we can come together as a society once again and begin to move toward Peace, Progress, and Unity. It’s time to make the future now.
