Probono Dilley trip by Magnolia

I am diligently working on my immigration cases and not taking in new cases, so that this August I can spend 8 days volunteering at the Dilley Detention Center in Texas representing some of the thousands of woman and children fleeing violence, torture and abuse.

Most of the women and children have valid asylum claims but yet they are being detained indefinitely  by the US government; some without bonds, others with very high bonds despite the fact that none of them have any sort of criminal record.

The US is detaining women and children in the erroneous belief that this will somehow deter others from entering the US illegally. But the truth is that the majority of these women and children were not caught trying to sneek into our country, they ran towards CBP guards seeking safety...they are refugees.

For many of these women and children, winning their asylum claim means the difference between life and death.  But there are not enough volunteer immigration attorneys to represent all the families detained in Dilley or Karnes. 

I am volunteering my time to represent these women and children pro bono (Free of cost) but there are flight, hotel and rental car costs for me to get to Dilley. Your contributions will help defray these costs.   

I have made a tremendous personal sacrifice by leaving my young daughter, my business and my life as I know it for 8 days to assist on the ground in Dilley because I want to help make a tiny difference in the lives of these women and children.  

I whole heartedly believe their detention is unjust and that one day we as a nation will turn back and look upon their detention and the efforts to expedite their deportation as what it is ... a humanitarian disaster.  

As a mother, it is unconscionable to me what these mothers have gone thru in their own countries and what they have to now endure in ours, merely for trying to protect themselves and their children from violence.
