Eagle Project- Recycling Station

Donation protected

Hello,

My name is Lucas Zemser and I am a Life Scout in Troop 146/151, in West Milford, NJ. I have been in scouting since 2009. I am in the process of completing my Eagle Scout Community Service Project. I am building a recycling station for the Macopin Middle School as the beneficiary in my town of West Milford, NJ.

I am implementing a built-in system for the school’s cafeteria containing waste receptacles for separating recyclables and waste with built-in window boxes featuring item samples and educational displays on the benefits of recycling and reducing waste.

The purpose of the station is to help teach our students about the importance and benefits of sustainability and promote environmental awareness and stewardship.

This recycling station with enclosed bins will be an attractive, organized and clean solution to the school's current system which solely consists of free-standing exposed garbage cans.  As I visited college campuses across the region, I was very impressed to see similar recycling stations in all of their cafeterias. I decided this would be a great idea to bring to my town and an excellent BSA Community Service Project. The principal is very enthusiastic to have this project built for his school. I hope to forge a model program for other schools in the district and beyond to follow.

At over 8 ft, the station requires a lot of construction materials such as finished plywood, laminates, clear polycarbonate, trim wood, stainless steel trash rings, heavy duty casters, hinges and various hardware to produce an institutional quality finished product.

I am hoping to raise an additional $1,500 to purchase necessary materials. This project is already under construction but lacks the necessary funds to complete it. I hope you find my project valuable and will consider helping me complete it. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Please share this with friends and anyone who values the concept of sustainability and “going green”.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Please note, I put my dad as the beneficiary because you have to be at least 18 years old to withdraw funds.

Thank you,

Lucas Zemser
