My name is Gabriel Elbaz, I’m 15 years old and recently was very fortunate to have been picked as one of only 12 athletes to represent the Maccabi Basketball Team Canada at the 2017 Maccabi Games, which, just like the Olympic games, is held every four years in Israel. I was ecstatic when I heard the news, I felt so blessed and lucky as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Maccabi games is the third largest gathering of athletes in the world. I just can’t wait to be part of it, to experience not only the games, but also to visit Israel for the first time.

Basketball has been a passion of mine since I was 5. Today I play for 2 teams and now, for Team Canada as well. The sport is very demanding, I practice and play it 6 times a week all while juggling it with my studies. I guess my tremendous love of the sport and hard work has brought me to this lifelong goal, which I can say is by far my biggest sports achievement.

The cost of being part of the Maccabi Team Canada is $8,500 per athlete and I, as well as my teammates, are soliciting assistance and sponsorship to help us fund our trip. It will be a challenge to raise this amount but all donations are very much valued and appreciated.
