Paul's Marathon Fundraiser - Rhotia

In advance of the Chicago Marathon this year, I wanted to use the race as an opportunity to combine my running efforts with an effort to raise money for a cause that I feel strongly about - Rhotia Valley Children's Home in Tanzania, Africa.
Rhotia Valley Children’s Home provides 50 children with clean water, three meals a day, clothes, and a safe place to sleep. This past May, I had the opportunity to stay at the Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge on a neighboring hill while visiting my sister in Tanzania and was able to witness the great things that are taking place at the Children's Home. The owner, George, and his family have created a sustainable, eco-friendly home that fully integrates the children with the community.
During our visit, we spent time with the kids playing soccer, dancing, and racing across the hill. The children are curious, smart, and kind—they welcomed us with big smiles, killer dance moves, and soccer skills that put my lack of goalie ability to shame. Being able to see firsthand the opportunities they receive due to the lodge and through donations was pretty special.
