Lye Family Fund

Selinda and her family  are some of the kindest people that I know. Selinda is very involved with the community and never asks for anything in return. Selinda and her family are facing an extreme medical hardship and the time has come for all of us to repay her selflessness and kindess by helping the family in an way we can.  Myself and Erin Chittle are trying to fundraise for the Lye's in their time in need.

In May of 2010, while Selinda was on maternity leave, Philip was diagnosed with a brain tumor. What should have been one of the most amazing years of their lives, became much more challenging than they had anticipated.

Philip's brain tumor was operated on the day after it was discovered. It was the size of two golf balls. He spent a week in the hospital before he was discharged to continue his recovery at home. As a result of the brain tumor, Philip was no longer able to work. He suffers from neuropathic pain, which affects the entire left side of his body, making it so that even the slightest wind will cause him pain. He also could no longer walk and spent the first 3 - 4 months unable to do much. By 6 months, he had progressed to 6 minutes of walking. In the past 6 years, he has been able to increase it to 15 minutes, but is mostly in a mobility scooter. Philip also suffers from seizures as a result of the brain tumor.

Over the past two months, Philip was experiencing an increased amount of pain and suffering from many more seizures and episodes of blurry vision. After a ct-scan and MRI, it was confirmed that Philip's tumor had returned.

Philip will be undergoing surgery within the next month and a half, before Christmas. Doctors have anticipated that he will revert back to how he was after his first surgery

This puts a huge burden on Selinda to take care of her husband, homeschool their 7 year old gifted daughter, take care of their 5 year old son who has huge anxieties, while still somehow managing to pay the bills for a family of 4. Aside from the normal everyday bills of the average family Selinda is looking at physio costs, hiring a medical attendant, medications, and childcare. Philip is also in desperate need of new scooter which costs thousands. Above all Selinda's biggest fear is that her young children will not understand what is going on with their daddy and if she is out working full time to support the family there will be not only a lack of dads presence but also moms as well.

We have set this up and are hoping that as a community we can come together and make this less of a burden for the Lye family and give Selinda the opportunity to focus more on her family, and less on making ends meet.  No family should have to go through such a hardship at anytime much less Christmas time. Please take the time to either donate or share so we can spread the word to help during such a hard time for the Lye family.
