Water Monitoring Plan Development

Our Go Fund Me Campaign:

The Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership (LRWP) needs your help to make our goal of a comprehensive volunteer monitoring program for the Lower Raritan Watershed a reality! We need $1,300 to participate in the web-based training program “Monitoring That Guarantees Measurable Results” (sponsored by the nationally-known River Network). This program will help us develop a monitoring plan for our central New Jersey Lower Raritan Watershed including a data inventory, a blueprint for monitoring objectives, an information delivery plan and a monitoring program evaluation plan. 100% of the funds raised will go to monitoring plan development.

Who We Are:

The Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership (LRWP) is an all-volunteer group working to conserve, enhance and restore the natural resources of the Lower Raritan Watershed in Central New Jersey. Our organization supports the protection and preservation of habitat and biodiversity within the Raritan River ecosystem through volunteer monitoring ("civic science") of the Raritan River and her tributaries.

The Need for Water Monitoring in the Lower Raritan Watershed:

The LRWP brings focus to water quality goals and gaps and to the efforts required to improve and maintain water quality and water resources in the Lower Raritan Watershed. The LRWP is concerned in particular with historic industrial growth and attendant dumping of pollutants that left a legacy of contamination in the River. Although dumping is much ameliorated, current contamination levels in many stream segments are unknown, and no comprehensive assessment of water quality for the LRW has been performed since the 1970s. Additional threats to the watershed include combined sewers, an average of 34% impervious surfaces, and significant non-point pollution.
