Love for Aaliyah

On May 4th, 2019, my family tragically lost an angel. Kimie Holt, RN was murdered in her Fresno home by her daughter Aaliyah's father, William Rivera. This man had multiple restraining orders placed against him and left many other women and children as devastated victims. Unfortunately, Kimie was his last victim, she'd been relentlessly pursued by Rivera over the course of many years and when she was completely free of his grasp legally and in person, he snapped. On this day, Kimie was killed, and her abuser took his own life, leaving their 1.5 year old daughter Aaliyah with no parents. Kimie was the most kind-hearted, hardworking, and determined person.  As we've been processing her loss as a family, we've all taken comfort in the fact that she got the things she most wanted out of life. The two things Kimie most wanted were to become a nurse and to become a mother. Aaliyah was Kimie's everything, and our family is rallying around Aaliyah. It takes a village, and we know that Kimie's community wants to help support her. We would also like to acknowledge the families of victims, that it can be a long and hard battle working with your loved one, but to keep being supportive and in the trenches with them because a support system is invaluable when an abuser is trying to isolate their victim.
