Love Beats Hate

The home of Devin Meade, Ken Jenkins and their young children was defaced with racist graffiti. They woke up early on the morning of Saturday, March 2 to find the graffiti all over the boards they had set against the fence in their front yard, as well as on other parts of their home. A stick figure hanging from a noose was spray painted directly over the chair Mr.  Jenkins often sits in when at home with the couple's two children. The panels that are along the fence in the front yard were put there by Devin and Ken in an effort to impede the view from the neighbors across the street. The neighbors who have been harassing the family since August, necessitating repeat calls on a weekly basis to the police. The neighbors have threatened gun violence. Devin and Ken have left the graffiti up over the past week rather than availing themselves of numerous offers of help to paint over it. They will eventually paint over it, but feel it is important for people to see that racism is alive and active and that it isn't something that happens to people somewhere else: it's right here.  A more immediate need for the family is to erect a tall fence around their front yard for security. They have been able to install cameras and lights, but a fence is not an undertaking they can afford on their own right now. The $2k suggested as a financial goal is an estimate of what a tall wooden fence plus labor would be for just their front yard. There has been a lot of community support for the couple, but they need a place donations can be sent. GoFundMe seemed the obvious route for raising funds. Devin Meade speaks heartfully here to how hate crimes amd racism isn't just an attack on an individual or family, but on a community. Her composure, clear vision and broad perspective is a direct reflection of how she lives her life: mindfully and decisively.  https://www.instagram.com/p/BupOboFltwX/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link There have been a number of stories in the news about this incident. This one covers the basics and most of the others are more or less the same . https://kdvr.com/2019/03/03/home-tagged-with-racist-graffiti-in-denver/ Thank you for taking the time to read about this. Devin and Ken place a high priority on spreading awareness of racism and would appreciate people helping with that goal. Whether you can contribute or not, please tell people who think America is post racist that this kind of terrorism is still happening.
