Help Our Church Help Our Community

Donation protected

In 2012, Hurricane Sandy blasted for 2 days in Lorain, Ohio and twisted the roof of our church.   We were left battling the insurance company for almost a year, during this time we were unable to serve people from our food pantry.  This resulted in the loss of grants used to fund the food we stock in our pantry.  Since then, we have been using church funds to support monthly dinners and feed over 100 families.  We are still attempting to obtain grants to restock the pantry.

Our church, The Christian Temple - Disciples of Christ, is one of the few remaining in downtown Lorain, which was an industrial city and continues to suffer due to the loss of the industries that once were so important to the city - mainly the steel and auto industries.   With those losses have come hardship to the people of Lorain, including food security.  Our parishoners are doing the best they can to give back to the place we call home.  We serve breakfast for those in need every Wednesday and host a food pantry every second Wednesday of the month.

The population of our church has declined drastically over the years, to around 100 members, in total. Financing the pantry without grants has been an extreme drain on the resources of the church and the money we need to keep the church open.  We are trying very diligently to stay vibrant, but we are one disaster away from closing. Donating to our church will help more than just our members, it will help the people who rely on our church to help feed their families.  The money you donate will be used to fund the food pantry until we are able to obtain our grants.
