From Here to Manzanar

I am currently raising money for a photography project that will document the existence of Japanese internment camps throughout the southwest of the United States. Set up during World War II, these camps were set up to detain Japanese residents; men, women, and children.
Several of the camps exist as national parks in the Southwest. This project will explore the physical places symbolic of what I consider a terrible chapter in US history. Additionally, I will compare what happened then to what's going on now in our social discourse.
The title of this project is "From Here to Manzanar." It refers to the historic fact that the Japanese community that lived in East San Pedro, (now Terminal Island), were the first to be interned at Manzanar. While this is primarily a photography project, it will include interviews, and written testimony from people who were interned.
