Lighting the Way!
Lighting the Way! funds will be used to provde energy efficient LED light bulbs to an 11 story residence for low income seniors (167 units) in NYC.
Your donation will not only cut carbon emissions, which are dangerous to our health and the health of our planet, but help reduce our fellow New Yorkers' energy bills.
Benefits of LEDs:
Lighting consumes 22 percent of the electricity produced in the United States (US Department of Energy). There's no easier path to lessen our over-consumption of energy and save money than switching to LED (Light-Emitting Diode) bulbs.
LEDs have a long lifespan. The US Department of Energy rates LEDs as lasting 35,000-50,000 hours as compared to about 10,000 hours for CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulbs and 1,000 hours for a regular incandescent bulb!
LEDs generate no heat, so they help reduce AC costs as well during summer months.
LEDs are mercury free, unlike CFLs.
If every New Yorker switched just one CFL bulb to a LED bulb, we would collectively cut over 125 million pounds of carbon emissions per year in NYC. Imagine how much carbon is saved switching from one incandescent bulb to energy efficient LEDs!
Together we are Lighting the Way! to stop climate change!
Happy New Year to all of our friends and supporters! We are close to completion thanks to the work and dedication of our volunteers and contributors. This has been a wonderful experience for all of us involved and we will be making an educational video about the project to share with other civic and community groups to encourage everyone to make the switch to LEDs One LED saves 1/2 ton of carbon over its 17 year life. Let's do this!
Thank you so much to our generous donors. Your contributions are helping to make this happen. I'm placing another light bulb order today. Please share with your network of friends and colleagues. Happy Spring!
Thanks for each and every contribution. Help spread the word. "To change everything, we need everyone".
