A van for the Light House kids

I’m heading to Cambodia in March to spend some time with an awesome family who look after 22 young orphaned children. I’m joining a small team and together we hope to encourage and support the work of this family … as well as learn a bit about what life is like in their part of the world.
As a team we’ve decided to raise money to give them a huge gift that will make their lives much easier. We want to buy them a van that can help them transport the kids wherever they need to go - school, church, and any other outings. The total cost is over $20,000, but a lot of money has already been donated from the generosity of those on the team. I’m looking to raise $5000 through a combination of this campaign and some other local fundraising activities. Any amount raised will help, and if we raise more then it will all be given to the family to support vehicle maintenance and any other expenses in future.
I take so much for granted in our lucky part of the world. My kids and I get to enjoy so many incredible things with ease, and there’s a lot of support for us when we experience difficult times. Life in Cambodia is very different. Lives are too often cut tragically short (there are still estimated between 4-6 million land mines hidden in the country), and when children are left without parents they become incredibly vulnerable. The work of this family, through the organisation Asia’s Hope, is truly life saving for the children in their care. More than that, the children are being educated and growing up with a chance to give back to the Cambodian community for future generations.
