Liam Schreuder - A Journey of Hope

Donation protected

My name is Daniel and I am starting this GoFundMe page to help alleviate some of the financial cost my sister, Anina and brother in law, Johann are facing to send their son, Liam to The Family Hope Center. The Family Hope Center is located in the United States but will be in South Africa in February 2017. The cost for this is $7,200 and is not covered by insurance. Liam has recently been diagnosed with Autism. The Family Hope Center specializes in special needs children and will create a individualized program unique for Liam to help him develop the social and motor skills he needs to live an independent life. This program is also taylored to aid Anina and Johann in learning the essential skills they need to help Liam reach his full potential. Everyone knows that caring for a special needs child is emotionally and financially challenging. Graciously our family is asking for donations in helping making Anina and Johann's dream come true - to have Liam call them Mommy and Daddy.
Liam was born in April 2014. Shortly after birth he was admitted into Neonatal ICU and spent his first two days there to monitor his breathing. Around 6 months old Liam had a severe allergic reaction and was hosptialized. It was then that Anina and Johann's emotional road began. It was determined that Liam is severly allergic to dairy, nuts, wheat, eggs, gluten, etc. Liam also suffers from extreme eczema and wakes up most night crying from the pain from scratching himself relentlessly until his skin is bleeding. Anina and Johann have been to dermatologist after dermatologist. They have tried everything possible to help Liam's skin condition - prescription creams, UV light treatments, over the counter creams, even home remedies. On top of the skin condition, Liam was persistently sick, suffering from pneumonia, bronchitis, and constant ear infections until his surgery in October 2015 to place grommets (tubes) in his ears. Since then Liam's health has improved. Anina and Johann knew at this point in time that Liam was behind in development and not reaching normal milestones for a child his age. They didn't know if it was due to being ill all the time or if it was more.
At age two and a half Liam is unable to utter a word, effectively communicate his emotions, and does not socialize. Liam is unable to focus or pay attention to learn critical skills and has low muscle tone making normal child activities like jumping or riding a bike impossible. Anina and Johann have traveled extensively from Warmbaths to Pretoria to see countless doctors in search of answers and to try and understand why Liam's development is stagnant. Liam has endured MRI scans, hearing tests and has been seen by Speech and Occupational therapists, Psychologists and Neurologists. Liam just recently has been diagnosed with Autism. For Anina and Johann this has turned into more unanswered questions and for them The Family Hope Center is the next step for Liam - A Journey of Hope.
