Let’s save Luka !
Dear friends,
Tomek Lewandowski, was the first Pole and the sixth person in the world to circumnavigate the Earth against the prevailing winds, solo on his yacht Luka.
As a teenager he already dreamed of sailing solo around the world. Thanks to his persistence he achieved his goal.
Many of us were following his voyage through his blog . We were all captivated by his reports.
Tomek was not only a great friend, fantastic sailor but also one who could recognize when someone was in need and offer them a helping hand.
His heart gave in and he passed away during a voyage in 2012.
We all mourned him. It was a huge shock to all of us - he would be the last person on Earth we would expect to be so ill. He was a huge man, with a very strong psyche - just like a giant with a good heart.
His wife Beata soon after recovering from the shock of losing Tomek continued Luka's commercial sailings. She was doing well despite the stack of bill for Tomek's hospital stay.
Unfortunately, something happened that put Beata in a difficult situation yet again.
During her stay in Europe, Luka which is anchored in the port of Panama was robbed, both - transmission and the parts of the engine got stolen, immobilizing Luka and preventing Beata from earning a living and from a possibility of bringing Luka to the US.
Even though it is a yacht (weighs 27 tons) it needs an engine to maneuver inside the port (marina) as well as produce energy without which it would be quite difficult to move Luka to Florida (unless one can be a Viking).
Two years ago Beata returned to the US to earn money needed to do the necessary repairs. She is working 7 days a week, 2 jobs, 12-14 hours a day to be able to stay in the US and to pay fees for Luka’s stay in the Panamanian marina.
Her dream is to bring Luka to Florida where she could earn her living with commercial sailings and to live on her yacht, at this moment Beata is homeless.
Unfortunately, she makes quite a little money and it would take a long time to save the amount necessary to cover the replacement cost of the missing parts and pay the marina fees. The longer Luka stays in Panama the bigger marina fees and deterioration of the abandoned boat.
It does not come easy to Beata to ask for help, and she didn't even want to hear about friends just donating money to her cause, we offered help back in 2016, and she refused, and tried to do it on her own.
There are dozens, maybe even hundreds of you who sailed with Tomek and Beata on Luka and consider themselves to be their friends, so please let us save Luka and help Beata to stand back on her feet again. She is bravely fighting for her own and Luka's survival, she doesn't cry, nor complains but toils from morning ‘til night.
Any donation, even the smallest one will count.
Money is needed to replace the missing parts, to do other necessary repairs, and pay for the labor associated with it as well as the marina fees and the cost of fuel required to bring Luka to Florida.
Maybe some of you have knowledge in this area and can give advice. That too would be valuable.
Those who offer a sum equal to or greater than $1000.00 will get the opportunity to sail on Luka from Panama to Florida without any additional cost. It will be at least a two week sailing (intended solely for seasoned sailors or the ones who are hungry for extreme experience) or they could choose to go with Beata on a weeklong sailing to Cuba or other attractive place i.e. Bahamas, with all meals included.
If you can only offer a smaller amount, lets say $ 50 you will be able to go on Luka for a few hour long "Sunset" cruise on a bay in Florida to admire the sunset.
Helping bringing Luka to Florida is also great opportunity for investors, if you want to be a part owner of beautiful Mikado 56 ketch , just invest 15000, and help bring her to United States.
