                     _________________________________

The Salsbury family has been a major presence in my life since I was a small child. Our families attended the Los Angeles first Church of the Nazarene together and our parents quickly became good friends.

When I was in my teens, Sonny became the Youth Director at L.A. First Church and I became one of Sonny's "youth."  I am now 71 years old.

Followed by my deeply faithful father, Sonny has been the second most influential person in my life.

Sonny is turning 80 in March of 2018 and was recently diognosed with cancer of the liver.

Sonny and Linda - his wonderful wife of nearly 6 decades - now need our help.

They recently sold their home in Arroyo Grande, (currently in escrow), to move back to to their beloved home in Yakima Washington. This was made necessary by their desire to repay the personal loan given them to purchase the Arroyo Grande home.

This will be a 1000 mile move with enormous challenges,  both physically and financially.

Making such a expensive, arduous move while having to deal with the complications of Sonny and Linda's health  presents hardships we can only imagine.

They must hire a moving company with movers for the heavy lifting and tedious packing and unpacking. Until recently, I had not realized how expensive such a long distance move is going to be.

But Sonny and Linda have always been clear about their approach to dealing with trials and tribulations.  It is expressed best in a song written by Sonny.

You Gotta Keep Dancin'

A Wife and Mother Worthy of Great Honor

By the time they married in April of 1959, Linda knew her husband was gifted with unique skills and talents that were going to be used to touch lives and lead many souls to our Lord Jesus Christ.

I believe their marriage has been a co-equal team, called and ordained by God to serve His purpose. Sonny and Linda's lives were combined for life, devoted to serving the Lord regardless of where God leads them.

Linda's health issues with serious back pain

Linda's pain has become  more severe over the past several years. I have visited with Sonny and Linda during her times of terrible pain. She always amazes me with her sense of peace and uplifting spirit. Linda knows she is in the arms of her Lord.  She is a true inspiration to everyone who knows her.

On the very day that I wrote about Linda here, I discovered a 2 year old Facebook post from Sonny and Linda's son, Dave.  After getting Dave's permission, I wanted to share it with you.

Urgency

With the difficult and expensive moving date of March 28th fast approaching, the need for funds has become somewhat urgent. Now is when your help is needed.

For those who are not familiar with Sonny's work and and ministries, I will quote from one of many online sources:

From CD Baby
https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/sonnysalsbury

"Sonny has enjoyed a long career as a composer. Word Music of Nashville has published close to 200 of his songs, including 10 albums of youth musicals and other collections. Some say Sonny's Opus is 'The Backpacker's Suite' (1975) and it is still used frequently by church choirs, along with 'Breakfast in Galilee' and 'Love Came Down.'"

"Sonny has a lifelong love of the wilderness, of camping and backpacking. Many of his songs have been written in the mountains. His favorite place to sing is around a campfire with a group of folks who like to do the same."

"Many of Sonny's acquaintances agree that "How's About a Boa?" is the finest recording that has ever been made of his music. He agrees and is very grateful for the gifts of producers Michael Gayle and Jennifer Russell."

Regarding "How’s About a Boa?"
Sonny says, "I was driving a bus load of kids up to Yosemite, when we spied a Rubber Boa on Highway 41. After talking about snakes with the kids for a while, I amused myself by writing this song as we continued into my favorite National Park."

Be sure to listen to both short cuts of Sonny's song, "How’s About a Boa?" in the video below.

Sonny and Linda have inspired so many of us for more than 60 years. They have influenced the lives of thousands of brothers and sisters that we may never meet until "that great day."
