Let's build again our life

Seven years ago, I moved from Colombia to the United States with my daughter, Mariana, dreaming of a beautiful future with my new husband. Our marriage started as any does, but I soon started to notice a pattern of behavior that he had not previously shown during our courtship.

A year ago, I was contacted by a woman who disclosed that she had been looking for my husband for several years and that he had abandoned her and his two children. I discovered that he had 2 more families in 2 different countries, with kids between the ages of 13 and 7. The youngest was born when we had started dating. He has abandoned every family, leaving no trace behind and moved to the next one.

Every time after I asked for an explanation he became verbally abusive and took the money away from me and made me feel unsafe in my own house. He told me that this woman had trapped him into these children and that he had never had a relationship with her. We went to couple’s therapy, but he was not honest with me or the therapist.

In Colombia, I was an Industrial Engineer with a Bachelors degree. Degrees and work experience do not transfer to the states, so started working at Macy's for a while. I became a stay at home mom when my daughter was born in 2015. I been trying to find a job in my field for a year with no luck. Since I have not been able to find work in that field, I decided to utilize my skills and knowledge to become a math teacher. I have been working on the steps to do so.

I have been stalling in moving forward with a divorce due to financial insecurity, but his behavior is getting progressively aggressive and I am unable to have him around my daughters. On December 30th 2017 I finally got the courage to say that I want a divorce.

He has threatened to leave the state and not provide any financial support to me, my oldest, or his biological daughter.  He has been controlling the situation by keeping hold of finances in the house, including any money that is made. I started my own company over the summer and he has been selling the equipment behind my back.

I am starting this GoFundMe so that I can get the financial help I need to keep a roof over my daughter’s heads and food on our table. The money will be used in food, gas, deposits and legal services for the girls and I, and I hope it will help me get back on my feet. Any help is greatly appreciated during this insecure time.

Thank you for reading my story, every little bit helps.
