My name is Lemon and I am a 2 yr old golden retriever with a special purpose. My human, Kris, is a physical therapist in Boulder, CO and I was born and raised to be a service dog for Canine Partners of the Rockies (CaPR), a 501(c)3, where I help people with multiple disabilities using skilled animal-assisted therapy.

It costs CaPR $25,000 to raise, care for, train and place each service dog with a partner. Any money donated through this fundraiser will go directly to CaPR to pay for my training and the training for future service dogs like me. Let's "pay it forward".

To check out CaPR go to http://www.caninepartnersoftherockies.org and I will update this page with awesome success stories, I have many!

Howdy...Lemon here! So some of you may be wondering what I'm going to do with all this training. The next few blogs will be about my jobs. So one job I have is working with physically disabled kids in the ARCH program (adaptive recreation for childhood health.) As the weather gets colder, and the snow flies I am getting really excited!! I get to ride this cool bus with about 35 kids from Childrens Hospital ARCH, up to Winter Park skiing! I get to "visit" with them, help with their walking, comfort them if they get frustrated and hopefully encourage them to keep skiing. Right now I'm working on this skill to drag a basket with their lunches over the snow. Keep you posted on how that goes....

Hello! This is Lemon and I wanted to tell you a bit more about myself. My human partner Kris and I are working together to bring hope, encouragement and fun to people with disabilities using skilled animal assisted therapy. Mostly we help people move and read! Whew - that's ALOT for a furry friend like me! I was born in a litter of 7 where we all started off being trained as service dogs for Canine Partners. They named our whole litter for places in Colorado and they all had to start with "L". At first I wasn't too happy with my name but now I LOVE it! Want to know why?? I am Lemon-Aide!!! Yep, here to help people with disabilities. I will show you lots of pictures of my puppyhood later. Wow, were we cute! My human partner Kris tells me how this dream got started. They have a son who had a stroke at birth and has weakness on his right side (they call it hemiparesis which is Cerebral Palsy.) At 4 mon old, he also had kidney cancer, so they spent a lot of time in rehab helping Tyler get better, learn to walk, play, etc. His sister Lindsay and brother Matt got very tired of going to therapies with Ty so they all decided an animal would make it ALOT more fun. So as a family, they started raising their first service dog puppy. They saw how an animal could help especially with Physical Therapy. So, 5 service puppies later, I get to fulfill this dream!!! I will be staying with Kris as a facility service dog, working in Physical Therapy and with kids who have learning and physical disabilities. So far I have worked with people with Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, autism, learning disabilities and traumatic brain injury. I will be writing about each of these adventures as we go, and tell you about some of the really cool things my service dog friends are doing at Canine Partners. Check out their website at caninepartnersoftherockies.org. Donate your time, encouragement and money if you can!!!
