Leadership Training in Rwanda

Developing national leaders to transform underserved rural Rwanda

Help us create sustainable transformation in Rwanda by developing national leaders through a holistic training program.  While Rwanda is a beautiful country in the heart of Africa and home to a hospitable and industrious people, it is the Genocide of 1994 that people remember.

Since that time, Rwanda has come a long way. Development and reconciliation work continues within the country, with many in the church wishing to take an active role. However, most still struggle with poverty and understanding how the church can function differently than it did before.

This is why New Creation Ministries (NCM) exists. NCM is a school located the capital that uses multiple programs to support the church of Rwanda, regardless of denomination. One of our programs, the Pastoral Training School (PTS), focuses on the 85-90% of Rwandan pastors who live in rural areas and have nothing more than a 6th grade education. This unique program offers theological education to these rural pastors who would have no other opportunity for this type of training.  The program is offered at a 6th grade education level, taught in their heart language, and features cultural application to the specific issues their churches encounter.

Most of our students outside of the capital are bi-vocational; they pastor a church, but survive by subsistence farming.  Beyond theological instruction, our students study agriculture and animal husbandry to learn more effective ways to sustainably help their communities.  These classes allow the pastors to directly combat the pervasive poverty in rural Rwanda.

PTS students return to their communities equipped both to help others understand the gospel and to create positive change. Students, once thinking that the only way to help their churches was through foreign aid, now work with their churches through the skills learned at NCM, bringing hope and healing to their neighbors.

Because most of our students are poor, we often search for scholarships to offset the cost of their education. Each student comes to NCM 4 times per year, staying on campus for 3 weeks. NCM provides room and board for the students. For some, even paying for transport to the capital is difficult. We are raising $16000 to give scholarships to 9 pastors for next year.

This year, we have an additional opportunity.  Donors in the U.S. have agreed to offer us a match grant for people who commit to ongoing support of these pastors.  As we get yearly or monthly support commitments our donors will match 100% up to an additional $16,000; this $32,000 will provide scholarships to 18 students.  Our deadline for this grant is December 31.  One time gifts will make an impact; ongoing support will double your impact.

We believe that if the church can be enabled to function as the body of Christ, the church in Rwanda can be at the forefront of continued healing and reconciliation, building the future of Rwanda.
