Lame Deer Wolves Little League Team
We are the Lame Deer Wolves Little League Team and we live on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in southeast Montana. We are all members of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. Our coaches are Robert Bearchum, Jr. and Kevin Lonebear. They volunteered a lot of time and personal money to get our little league team off the ground last summer, and we need your help to make our second season a success!
Our community hasn't had a little league team in over 20 years. Our reservation is in a very rural location and many of our families struggle to make ends meet. There are few positive things to do in our community for kids, and keeping us safe and occupied over the summer is one of the main goals of our little league team. Any boy on the reservation who is 8-12 years old is welcome on our team. If we don't have cleats or gloves, our coaches find a way to get them for us.
Our coaches are more than our coaches--they are some of the only positive male role models we have in our community. They make their rounds everyday after work to pick us up for practice. We practice nearly everyday all summer long regardless if we have a game or not. Coach Bearchum drives the Wolfmobile, our team van. We always eat together as a team after practice and talk about anything that's bothering us or just general topics like team work, sportsmanship, trying our best, and staying out of trouble.
After a great season last summer, we've had so many boys interested in joining the Wolves that now we have enough players for THREE teams! In order to make sure we have enough games for our teams, we will be joining the Sheridan, Wyoming Little League. Sheridan is 2 hours away from the reservation, but our coaches are committed to getting us to games and making sure we have a good summer. To join the Sheridan Little League, we need to raise $600 for a team fee. We also need to raise enough money to pay for gas for our Wolfmobile, snacks, and extra uniforms and equipment.
We have a bank account set up just for our team at First Interstate Bank in Lame Deer, Montana. Any money raised will go straight to our team account and will be used to support the Lame Deer Wolves this summer. We will be transparent and accountable with all donations. Our coaches will not earn a dime, and they will make our expenditures available to each of our donors so you can see how you're helping us.
