LCFD#1 Rescue 2 Restoration Project

Laramie County Fire District #1 recently purchased the 2002 Saulsbury Cyclone II Heavy Rescue. From its creation in 2002, it served as Rescue 2 for the Fire Department of New York City, which covered the downtown Brooklyn area until 2012. It was designed, built, and purchased by the Fire Department of New York City to replace the Rescue 2 that was destroyed, and the 343 that died, during the collapse of the Twin Towers at 9:59 AM and 10:28 AM on September 11th, 2001.
We purchased the vehicle from the Remembrance Rescue Project out of Schaumburg, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. The mission of the project was to restore the Fire Department of New York City Post 9/11 Rescue trucks to their original glory. They have successfully done this with Rescue 4 and Rescue 5, and these trucks are currently traveling the United States as a tribute memorial to those lost on that fateful day. Unfortunately, when they purchased Rescue 2, funding had become scarce and they were unable to complete the refurbishment goals required. Laramie County Fire District #1 purchased Rescue 2 with the intent to restore it and bring it back to full service capability. Once complete, Rescue 2 will serve Southeast Wyoming and Northern Colorado with much of its original capabilities, as well as changes to meet requirements of our region. This will include the critical I-80 and I-25 corridors, many major imperative railroad lines, many industrial facilities supporting oil, natural gas, and mining operations, and one third of the United States Air Force’s mission-ready nuclear capability.
Current plans are to redesign the exterior of Rescue 2 to serve as a memorial to the 2 crews that died with the original apparatus. Rescue 2 will become Rescue 1-1, and part of the exterior design will reflect this new designation of service to the citizens and surrounding regions of Laramie County Fire District #1. To this end, Laramie County Fire District #1 is seeking donations of various items, equipment, or monetary donations to help offset the financial restraint we are all feeling in this age of ever constricting governmental budgets.

All donations will be handled by the Laramie County Firefighter’s Auxiliary, a 501(c)3 entity, and will thusly be tax deductible.
