A Christmas classic, reimagined
Why hello there!
My name's Lauren, and I am starting this GoFundMe campaign to help raise money so I can create a book! But it’s not just any book—it’s a fantasy twist on a Christmas story that’s been read by families for nearly 200 years!
The reimaging of a Christmas classic
Festooned with fantasy, my book puts a new spin (erm, magic spell?) on ‘A Visit From St. Nicholas' written by Clement Clarke Moore in 1823. I love playing video games, and I love Christmas books, so why not put video game-style characters inside a book? Ah-HA, now we’re talking!
Embark on an epic adventure
You begin in the town of Braven, where you meet noble Knights, a mystic Mage, a golden Fairy, and… a Dragon! But when the Dragon steals the Fairy, our Knights must go on a heroic quest in order to save Christmas. And OF COURSE all the lines are full of rhymes!
Why a Christmas story?
I come from a family who LOVES Christmas. My beloved father, who was murdered 8 years ago, would always read my family Christmas stories… starting on Thanksgiving night!! Of all the Christmas stories to choose from, our absolute favorite was ‘A Visit From St. Nicholas’. I can still hear his voice and see his smile anytime I hear those classic lyrics: “Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house…”
Even though my father’s life was unfairly cut short, he left behind a strong-willed quick-witted daughter (hey, that’s me!) who wants nothing more than to spread the love of Christmas with your family. I want my book to bring countless years of joy to every parent, every child, and everyone for seasons to come!
Join me on my quest
Writing, illustrating, and publishing my first ever book is A LOT of work. I’ve spent the past 7 months writing the book, but now I need help (aka money) to bring my book to life. With your chivalrous contributions, I can:
· hire an artist
(which is pretty important, considering this is a children’s book with lots of pictures!)
· pay for the domain and website hosting
· get a web designer & developer to build my website
(so I can post fantasy fables and short stories to keep you entertained while the book is being worked on!)
· and afford the fuel that keeps me going ☕
(mostly comprised of coffee and almond milk)
The sooner I get funds in, the sooner I can start paying off those expenses, and the sooner we can bring this book to life! OMG how exciting, right?!?
Thank you so much!
It would mean the world to me if you could help me achieve this quest. Plus, we get to keep in touch the whole way through, and you'll get to see everything as it unfolds! It'll be like creating your own children's book… without doing any work. Lucky you :)
I cannot thank you enough for hearing my story and helping me achieve this new chapter in my life. Any donations received will be put to good use! And even if you can’t make a contribution, I hope you will share this with a friend or family member on Facebook, Twitter, or in real life, so that we may unfold fantasy at our fingertips.
Will you Go Fund Me?
No power, no internet, and no coffee maker… these are the true battles we face in the wake of a Category 4 hurricane. Even though my MacBook boasts a 10-hour battery-life, I still won’t be able to publish new fables on www.BravenBooks.com nor post any updates/spoilers on GoFundMe until power, internet, and coffee is restored.
Since you’re all my friends and family and Facebook acquaintances, I kindly request that you refrain from calling/texting/FB Messaging since power & cell service will be scarce at best. I will of course keep you all informed as best as I can—c’mon Verizon, don’t let me down!!
Buuuut in the meantime, you can check out the newest fable on Braven Books:
Share your thoughts and comments—I’d love to hear them all! And I look forward to the next time I get to grace you with glorious updates of my book!
