Hi there! This is the Compassion Team at Lambert High School in Suwanee, Georgia. We are the driving force of a new club, Lambert Compassion. We are dedicated to raising money and awareness for children in poverty in third-world countries. Our goal is to raise enough money to start sponsoring a child through a child sponsorship program this coming January. Sponsorship programs allows sponsored children (ages 1-18) to have access to an academic education, medicine, and healthcare, nutritious and filling food, sanitation, clean water, a foundation with Jesus Christ, and a supportive sponsor family.
We will be choosing a child between the age of 10-15. In order to sponsor the child, we pay $38 every month as our minimum payment to support the child. In addition to monthly expenses, we can provide additional funds for disaster relief, Christmas gifts, and birthday gifts. Once we choose a child, we will commit to supporting the child until they are 22 years old. At a minimum, it will cost us $5,472, without additional expenses (birthdays and Christmas), to pay for 12 years of support.
Lambert High School is located in one of the most developed counties in the state of Georgia. Because of this, a mindset that connects one’s worth with material value is not uncommon. By integrating this club into the student body, we hope to see a change in attitude. We have a section of the high school library reserved for writing letters and drawing pictures to send to the sponsored child. All Lambert students are allowed to participate in writing and drawing. When we receive letters from the sponsored child, we will read them aloud to the student body over the intercom. We hope that by doing so, it will bring the students together by uniting in helping children in need.
We have brainstormed many different ideas to integrate this club into the student body. Two examples include: on the child's birthday, have the entire school wear the same color (the sponsor child's favorite color) and take a group photo to send to the child to show how much they are loved. Also, creating rubber bracelets with the child's name on it to distribute to the student body and the local community in the effort to spread the word and remind others to pray for the child. We hope that these efforts will spur feelings of importance and accountability in those of our peers that may be lacking some feelings of meaning in their own lives.
