Training for Large Animal Rescue

Donation protected
This campaign is specific to raising the funds necessary to provide FREE training to our local first responders dispatched  to Large Animal Emergency Rescue callouts.  This long-awaited, highly-valuable training will ensure that all participants are properly trained on how to efficiently and effectively extricate a large safely of both the animal and responder.

Q) What exactly is Large Animal Emergency Rescue?
A) Large Animal Emergency Rescue is the response phase of a natural/manmade disaster or accident, where specialized training and equipment are required to rescue a large animal such as a horse or cow.

Q) What are some examples of large animals rescue?
A) As many of you are already aware, animals can get themselves into the weirdest predicaments.  It may be as simple as getting down to roll in the pasture and not being able to get the proper footing to right themselves on their own accord.  Mother Nature may have also lent a contributing hand; causing them to be entraped in a sinkhole, mug bog, broken through frozen pond, quickly rising water, etc.  The utmost emergency is that of a vehicle accident; ie. trailer rollover.

The Hardin County Mounted Search and Rescue LLC (HCMSAR) is an all-volunteer, first responder, mounted resource that serves governmental public safety organizations.  It is our goal to be a fully-equipped and extensively trained, response resource for the Kentucky State Police, other Kentucky Law Enforcement and Fire Rescue Agencies, as well as the Hardin County Emergency Management.  Our Mission is to aid in search and rescue operations, disaster response, mounted perimeter patrols, community relations, and also assist in large animal emergency rescue.

Being a new and wholly volunteer organization, we are attempting to raise funds to support our operations.  To this end, we are hosting a Large Animal Emergency Rescue Training course November 6-8, 2015 and have created this GoFundMe fundraising campaign to raise the funds necessary to cover the expenses related to the LAER training; specifically the cost of the trainers, meals for participants, t-shirts, etc.  The training itself is being offered to all first-responders within Hardin County and surrounding counties, as well as barn managers of large animals and equine enthusiasts.

"We've found that while emergency responders are trained experts in human rescue and extrication, they usually have no training in large-animal rescue," said Bill Riss, General Manager for USRider.  "Because of this lack of training, responders are being put at great risk.  Moreover, in many accidents and disasters, animals without life-treatening injuries are being injured further or even killed by using incorrect rescue techniques." Though there is currently an expense being charged to the participants and auditors, we'd like to reduce or, prefereably, eliminate the cost for our local first-responders to participate.  In essence, we'd like to extend an offer to them for FREE training.  We can't make this opportunity possible without your assistance, and we need your help.

There are fourteen firehouses within Hardin County, to which twelve of those stations are sustained completely through volunteers.  As a volunteer, these first-responders are already unconditionally giving of themselves for the community's benefit.  It is our hope to see the community give back to them in return, as appreciation for their dedicated, hard work.

Many businesses and community leaders are on board, as well as several individuals.  Our community is clearly excited and eager to not only assist us in attaining our goals, but to exceed them exponentially.  You can be a part of that excitement by supporting our cause with your donation.  Additionally, we would be happy to acknowledge your donation on our website, Facebook page, and all media that publicizes the event.  For donations that exceed $300, we will add your logo to the back of the event t-shirts - providing that the donation is received prior to the apparel being ordered.

We would like to thank you for your time and considering this opportunity to partner with our organization for raising funds. Your support of this fundraiser will be greatly appreciated. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Your generosity will make a difference in our community and surrounding areas by allowing us to continue in our work. Remember that every donation makes a difference, regardless of size.

We thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,
Hardin County Mounted Search and Rescue, LLC
