Pro-Life Family Pays High Price
Kevin Stormans owns and operates a pharmacy that has been in his family for four generations. Because of his faith, Kevin made the choice not to sell Plan B and Ella, drugs that cause early-stage abortions - the state of Washington did not approve - and now the Storman’s need your help.
For decades, pharmacists have referred patients to other locations for an almost unlimited variety of reasons including religious objections. However, in 2007, abortion activists successfully pressured the Washington Board of Pharmacy to pass regulations that ban religiously-motivated referrals for drugs that cause early-stage abortion, while allowing pharmacies to continue referring patients for business and convenience reasons.
Kevin, and his family, stayed true to their religious convictions, even as activists began “test shopping” the store and filing complaints. When the state launched an investigation, Kevin made the difficult choice to file a lawsuit against the state for violating his family’s First Amendment rights. And Kevin won!
But despite winning a 12-day trial, seven years later Kevin and his family are still paying the price. Not only did the state and activists appeal, but due to an unprecedented Ninth Circuit ruling, the Stormans must pay over $140,000.00 for documents related to their opponents’ role in drafting the regulations and targeting religious objectors. This is a substantial financial hardship on the Stormans family.
Kevin and his family have given years of their lives to fighting for the unborn and standing up for religious freedom in America. And now they need you to stand up for them.
Please make a donation today and support a family who made the choice to do what was right.

1. Do these funds go to an abortion rights group? If so, I can’t give to this because I can’t support abortion.
These funds are going to help the Stormans, who have stood for life and for our right to live according to our religious convictions. The Stormans needed these documents in order to win at trial – and they DID win at trial. Now, the case is on appeal. If the Stormans win on appeal, health care providers will not have to sell pills that cause early abortions and the state will have to pay the Stormans back for their legal expenses. Until then, the Stormans need the resources to help pay these costs, so that they can keep fighting this battle to protect the unborn.
2. Can’t the Stormans just refuse to pay it? What will happen to them if they just don’t pay?
They must pay. If they don’t pay, they will likely have assets seized.
3. Why isn’t Alliance Defending Freedom appealing this? Isn’t there something you can do?
Alliance Defending Freedom defended the Stormans’ interests in the appeal concerning these costs. This is based on the Ninth Circuit’s ruling. But this isn’t the only appeal at issue. The Stormans won at trial, and the state has appealed; ADF represents the Stormans in that appeal as well. If the Stormans’ trial court win is upheld, the ruling will protect health care providers and the unborn.
I truly wish you success. My mother was active in pro-life from the beginning of Roe v Wade investing her own money & time heavily in the fight for life. I have a nephew who wanted to be a pharmacist but due to these same moral issues he is becoming an osteopath instead. I wish I could donate $$ but all I can do is pray j help pass the word. God bless you for standing up for your rights as well as the rights of the unborn.
The Stormans own Ralph's Thriftway and the Pharmacy. Their address is 908 4th Ave, Olympia, WA 98506. Phone (360) 352-4426. The biggest money saver for them will be a check. They will be delighted to get your donation. Thanks for bringing the issue of fees to my attention.
Keep up the good work. You are right
