KW Syria United Fundraiser
KW Syria United is a men's soccer team in the Grand River Soccer League (GRSL) made up of Syrian newcomers and refugees using soccer as "something familiar to cling to in a new environment that isn’t quite yet home." The team is raising money to pay registration fees in order to remain in the GRSL this coming season. As the Community Edition reports, "many community members helped the team along the way" including KW United FC , members of the Grand River soccer league and Reception House.
The last barrier remains registration fees and the Waterloo Public Interest Research Group (WPIRG), the Grand River Union Supporter Group and Rohingya FC are teaming up to organize this online campaign as well as a fundraiser hosted on March 4, 2018, at Cameron Heights Secondary School. The day will feature a friendly soccer tournament featuring KW Syria United players and local supporters! You can make a donation at the door or if you can't make the event, you can make your donation here online (or both!).

About KW Syria United FC: KW Syria United FC plays in the Grand River Soccer League. They recently put out an appeal for support to cover league registration costs. WPIRG and the GRU are in direct contact with the team coach and players. The funds raised here will go towards the team's registration costs for the Grand River Soccer League. Any funds raised above this will go towards the team's costs for jerseys, travel and practice field rentals fees. The funds are being collected by WPIRG who will then pay the registration fees on behalf of KW Syria United and also donate any remaining funds to the team. The funds raised will be presented by WPIRG and the GRU to KW Syria United FC at the end of the futsal tournament on March 4th, 4-6:30pm, Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute, 301 Charles St., Kitchener.
