Kansas Wildlife Exhibit Signage

Donation protected
The Friends of the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit is working with the Wichita Parks Foundation to raise funds for improvements to the historic wildlife exhibit in Riverside Park.  A generous donation in May 2015 allowed us to complete a number of projects that were needed immediately- improvements to the beaver and bobcat enclosures for animal health and a new security system to combat vandalism.  However, we have bigger plans for this exhibit…and this is where we need your help.

We will soon begin a campaign to raise funds for other improvements to the “bones” of the exhibit- such as new exhibit netting, structural repainting and upgrades to the animal handling areas.  Along with these enhancements, we want to improve the educational aspects of this exhibit and allow visitors to learn a little more about the exhibit’s residents and understand how important they are to Kansas.

For this reason, we are undertaking this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for professional-grade educational signage.  The committee is in discussion with designers to produce the signs, which will be similar in quality to ones seen at any modern zoo - like Wichita's Sedgwick County Zoo.  The signs will be durable, all-weather, full-color and vandal-resistant.  There will be signs to provide information and illustrations about each animal, as well as additional signs with information about the 114-year history of the zoo in Riverside Park and the importance of our native animals.

The above image is an example of the quality of signs we'd like to install.

Your funding will go to the following:

·         Design fee to create the sign artwork and text

·         Fabrication and installation of the signs

·         A maintenance fund for the signs

So, the next question is, "when do you need the funding"?  Well, the answer is as soon as possible, but more realistically, we'd like to have funding in place in the next 60 days.  Why?  Because April 8, 2016 is National Zoo Day, and we'd like to have the signs installed by then to coincide with other events planned for that day at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit.

All funds raised will be administered by the Wichita Parks Foundation, a volunteer-led 501(c)3 supporting Wichita’s park and recreation system.  The Friends of the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit is responsible for the design of the signs and their procurement.
