People in the North East of England are known for being some of the most generous and welcoming in the World. Now, more than ever, we need to show this and provide help and support for those who need it.
However, it's not always clear how you can help and where you can send your donation.
Having a relatively large twitter following gives me an opportunity to launch a central donation page for people in the North East. However, no matter where you are based in the UK, you are welcome to donate and share the page.
Each time we reach £100, the money will be sent to the UN Refugee Agency. (http://donate.unhcr.org/gbr/syria/)
What is UNHCR doing to help:
UNHCR provides basic and necessary humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees and helps the most vulnerable refugees with urgently needed relief - cash for medicine and food, stoves and fuel for heating, insulation for tents, thermal blankets and winter clothing.
By helping refugees in the surrounding region, UNHCR hopes to reduce the number of desperate Syrians resorting to smugglers and falling prey to traffickers to reach safety elsewhere.
Lets do the North East and the UK proud - let's show how generous we really are, and let's make a difference. We are so fortunate that we are the ones who can make that difference.
