Welcoming the stranger

In June 2011, Lake Washington United Methodist Church in Kirkland, Washington began welcoming women and families living in their vehicles.  

In the first year, we served 33 households.  In the last month, we've averaged 25 households each night.  

While the "hard costs" of the program are only about $6000/year, we would love to do more (e.g. provide washers and dryers and showers and even housing...) 

The church and our lives have been changed through the relationships we have with our brothers and sisters who are living in their vehicles.
